Northern Plains Rail Services

Northern Plains Railroad (NPR) operates a successful 350 mile regional railroad network in western Minnesota and North Dakota. Grain, frac sand, and general merchandise freight are our primary commodities handled. NPR interchanges traffic with the Canadian Pacific Railway at Kenmare, ND and Thief River Falls, MN, giving shippers on NPR access to the continental rail network and world class ports in both Canada and the US.

We have transload facilities that provide strategic access to the broader road transportation network at Fordville, Devils Lake, and Lansford, ND.  NPR is proud to serve ten modern grain elevator facilities capable of loading 100 car grain trains, in addition to smaller local shippers. We are focused on safety, providing high-quality service, and growing business together with Canadian Pacific and our customers.

Whether your company requires track construction, maintenance, or inspection services; or requires locomotives or rail car repairs – Northern Plains Rail Services (NPRS) can help.  NPRS is a sister company to NPR, and is your “one stop shop” for all rail related services.  We also perform industrial switching, manage short line railroads and trans-loading sites, supply industrial locomotives, and provide general consulting services.

NPRS operates its services in the upper US midwest and in western Canada.  Our friendly cross-border based team of railroaders is ready to put our commitment to safety, service, and quality to work for you.
